Just went to your 2.5 check up last week. You had to get 3 shots & were sure a trooper! You are now in the 25th% for height & weight. You have always been in the upper % for height and 10% for weight. You are 35 inches tall, weigh 27 lbs and your head circumfrance is 50cm. Lately you are super into wearing your "Cars" winter boots and a headband I wore to the 80's party and saying that together they make you run super fast. You call them your "rocketship boots", and the headband is your "rocketship helmet". Oh man, makes us laugh so hard!
Today is Oct. 1st...already! You have entered a sassy stage. You went to the Dr. today (you have a sinus infection) and the Dr. said you act more like a 3 1/2 year old. You are so very smart. You are already beginning to test your boundaries with your speech. I need to read about how to handle it the best. This morning by 8 you had a time-out. This is not typical, but seems to be more frequent in the past week. I asked you to do something, you told me "no", then continued on to yell at me and have an extremely sassy tone and words. After time-out and our "talk", you did the initial thing I asked you to do so perhaps the time out worked. You are even more hilarious these days, you literally never stop talking and your voice and the things you say are just adorable. Sometimes you say the most random things and we just die laughing! We passed this plant the other day and you looked at one of the buildings and said "hey that looks like a giant marshmellow"...and it did! SO funny! You learn so much at school, I learn new things that you are learning by just everyday conversation with you and am so impressed. I know you can count really well, I'm not really sure how high - but at least to 12, I heard you counting in the tub when I was in there pretending to not listen. If I ask you to count you laugh and skip numbers. ha. You sing your ABC's and every time you wash your hands you sing this song. I'm going to write it so I remember the words forever so I can picture you doing it. Melts my heart. "Top and bottom (repeat again), in between (repeat again), rub them both together (repeat again), you're all clean, super clean. You are so proud and smile so big every time. You are still going up and down with your interest in the potty. You will not try at home anymore and just last week stopped trying at school. Your teacher says she thinks its because you know you're going to move up to the 3 yr old room when you're potty trained and you don't want to yet. She has a good point. There are a ton more kids in that class, like 3x the amount that are in yours. Oh my little E, I just want to protect you from everything in the world. I am thankful God chose me to be your Mommy every single day!!!
Aug. 14th, 2011: Day 1 of breaking the binky...went very well, but I purposely started today bc Alex & Kyle were over all day and I knew you'd be occupied with them and wouldn't think about your binky as much. You cried hard this morning for it, was very hard not to give it to you :( But you got past it and went ALL day without it. I'm only letting you have it in your crib when you are napping or sleeping for the night. The boys are gone so hopefully tomorrow will go good! I think the hardest part will be not to have it on the ride home from school. Part of me says oh I'lll just give it to you for those few minutes but NO I have to stand firm. I tell you (and this is totally true, I'm living proof prior to braces!) that you're getting too big for your binky and it will make your teeth stick out. Bapa didn't call me "Bucky Beaver" for no reason when I was little! Except my clutch was my thumb, not a binky.
Sept. 20th: Well here we are a month later. E did FABULOUS with the dreaded breaking of the binky! I am so very proud. He understood immediately that he could only have it in his crib @ bedtime and only had a couple of breakdowns those first 2 days. Whew, sure don't miss making sure we have it when we leave the house, telling him to take it out when he talks in the car etc etc etc! SO nice not to have to tell him to put it up then hearing him whine about it. Yeay! Such a big boy! About a month or 2 ago he had a big milestone - can put on his no-tie, slip on brown tennis shoes all by himself! They are not easy to get on so this is super impressive! Can take his own socks, pants, and coat off. Working on the shirt - does a good job assisting, but can't quite master it without getting frustrated. He does his chores at night - throws his clothes down the chute before bath, brushes his teeth before I do, puts away his bath toys. His latest saying is "my do it, I'm a big boy Mommy". So very cute. He rarely wants me to carry him, no longer wants to ride in the seat of a shopping cart, wants to walk - but if he rides its in the back bc "its cool". Speaking of shopping - tonight we were at Sam's. I forgot my list and told him I was trying to remember everything that was on it. He filled me in on 3 items I would've totally forgotten. Then said "oh, we need milk; we're all out, remember Mommy?" (milk wasn't even ON my list!) He's more on it than I am! Impressive! Recently he has become more shy with adults, we are working on that. We are also dealing with what is appropriate to say and not saying certain things bc it will make people sad. A hard concept to get through to a 2 year old. He randomly said "I don't like that lady". I talked to him about why he can't say that around people, but he can tell me that at home later. While he was with me at work the other day, a resident asked him if he was going to come back and visit him again and E said "nope!". This was just him being honest - I'm sure in his eyes he was bored in his apt while I was fixing something. I think I may need to start reading some parenting books. Some of these new obstacles I'm not so sure of what the best things to say should be.
